Word of the Day: Esthetician

Posted on April 30, 2013

If you’re reading this blog, chances are you probably know the meaning of the word “esthetician.” But you may be surprised to find out how many people don’t know who or what that is? I tell people my mother is an esthetician and some look at me like I have three heads. “What is an ess-di–huh?”

So, if that word makes you want to scratch your head, this blog post for you!

An esthetician is a licensed skin care specialist, trained in cosmetic treatment of the skin.
To me, it has more meaning than just a mere “facialist.” It means they are fully licensed in preserving the health and beauty of the skin, and in performing cosmetic skin procedures and treatments. You may occasionally see it spelled “aesthetician,” which usually refers to an esthetician in a medical setting but today’s more common spelling of the word drops the “a.”

So there you have it, your skin care vocabulary lesson for the day!
