Pale is the New Tan, Part 1

Pale is the new tan. I saw that phrase on the cover of a magazine quite a few years ago. It was just about the time that I was really starting to adopt the idea that a tan is not all it’s cracked up to be. I’m a true Florida girl, born and raised in St. Petersburg. I spent my teenage years yearning to spend my days at the beach. Any chance I could get to meet my friends at Redington Shores, I took it. And I did NOT wear sunscreen. Well, that’s not necessarily true. I used tanning oil with an SPF 4. That counts, right? NO! But it didn’t matter, because sometimes I didn’t use any at all. If you’re reading this blog, chances are you probably know the meaning of the word “esthetician.” But you may be surprised to find out how many people don’t know who or what that is? I tell people my mother is an esthetician and some look at me like I have three heads. “What is an ess-di–huh?” So, if that word makes you want to scratch your head, this blog post for you! An esthetician is a licensed skin care specialist, trained in cosmetic treatment of the skin. To me, it has more meaning than just a mere “facialist.” It means they are fully licensed in preserving the health and beauty of the skin, and in performing cosmetic skin procedures and treatments.
